Ding Dong!

Ding, Dong, the wicked Falwell’s dead!  Right now, I’m doing a jig over his still-warm body.  I know it’s wrong to be so happy that a person is dead, but come on – I know some of you are too!  It’s just that the man spread so much hate and intolerance in his far too long life.  He was such a toxic person.  The world already has enough hate in it without Falwell adding to it by suggesting that major natural disasters were the fault of gays, feminists, or anyone else who wasn’t a white, middle to upper class, super Christian like him.  Hopefully his death will purge a bit of hate out of this world.  I know his spiteful legacy will live on in the name of “education”, but thankfully, he won’t be here to egg it on.  At the very least, death did what the rest of us could not – it shut his mouth permanently.  One down, Pat Robertson to go.  Amen.

But why is the rum gone?

Judging from this morning’s noisiness, Capt. Jack’s rum stash has yet to be found. In response, I did what any sane person would do – I installed my window air conditioner to block all the jackhammer noise. It worked well enough to give me 12 uninterrupted hours of sleep last night. Until Lucie felt the need to jump on my face because she needed to go out. Still, last night’s sleep was bliss.

More Jackhammers

Well, it’s now 3:21 PM, and the jackhammering *finally* stopped about 30 minutes ago. I have come to a conclusion. There is only one possible answer to what this crew was digging for.

Captain Jack’s rum stash.

Finals week is finally over! Life is now kittens walking on rainbows, or at least it was until 8:30 this morning. With finals week in full swing, I wasn’t getting much sleep and wasn’t really eating. I was merely existing on facts. Of course, when I got home from my last final last night, I crashed big time. I was planning on having a wonderful, luxurious night’s sleep last night. I figured I could sleep as long as I wanted because I didn’t have anywhere to be today.

I was wrong.

Very, very wrong.

At about 8:30 this morning, as I was still blissfully frolicking through dreamland, a construction crew showed up to scrap our streets in preparation to repave. Did I mention they had jackhammers? Lots of them? The lovely sounds of crumbling pavement jolted me out of bed. I don’t believe I’ve ever strung together so many curse words at once before. Here’s the killer. Even a nap is out of the question because the stupid work crew is still jackhammering away outside my window. They have now been at it for 3 hours and 15 minutes straight. WTF?? What could possibly take that long to dig up?? I keep waiting for them to take one of those union required lunches, but that doesn’t seem to be happening. Hmmm…I hope I can get out of my driveway…

Still Crazy Busy

But only until 8:30 Wednesday night. That’s when finals week comes to its painful end. Until then, there will not be much blogging. I did, however, get some great news this week. I got accepting into the certification program I wanted. This means I’ll be certified to teach in PA by this time next year! YAY!

To tide you over until my next post, here are a few funny stories from this week:

From speech class:

Professor: “Do you think you’ve made any progress in this class?”

Girl who just finished giving her speech: “Well, my butt cheeks weren’t shaking this time!”

From the basement where my dad had just finished installing a new water heater:

Dad: “Kim, I want to show you something. This is the main valve to shut off the water for the house. I’m not used to projects going so smoothly, so if you hear anything unusual while I’m gone…”

Me: “Like loud rumblings?”

Dad: “I was thinking more along the lines of torrential gushing.”

Me: “So rumbling is just worrisome, but gushing’s bad?”

Dad: “Exactly. Gushing’s bad.”

Way to instill me with confidence in your plumbing skills Dad!

Crazy Busy

I need at least 28 hours in a day.  Seriously.  It’s that time of the year where things get crazy busy.  I’ve been working on an education project for a week, at least 8 hours a day.  And it’s not nearly done.  Gah!  Must keep working!

On the other hand, I have to send out a hearty congratulations to Glitter Sister who graduates from college tomorrow!  YAY!!  Another congratulations goes to my parents who are officially done paying college bills.  :-)

Even More Tilted

Guess what The Tilted Dog did today? She almost got herself horribly attacked by a groundhog. I don’t get it. She has never chased a groundhog before. We have one that’s lived in our backyard for her whole life, and she’s never bothered it once. Today, I was walking her in the woods, and she saw two groundhogs chasing each other. I think it was the chasing that did it. One of the groundhogs climbed up a tree (didn’t know they could do that, did you?), and the smaller one tried to escape on foot. Bad move. Lucie was on it. Every time the groundhog would scoot away, Lucie would tackle it again. I chased her for what felt like forever. I just kept screaming at her, but of course, she kept ignoring me. Finally, I managed to get a stick in between them and push Lucie back. I did this twice before I was able to grab her collar. I was terrified the whole time. I’ve heard of dogs who’ve gotten their stomachs ripped open by groundhogs. Lucie just kept cornering it against trees and logs. She and the groundhog were literally nose to nose and snapping at each other. I swore she was going to get shredded by either its claws or teeth. Fortunately, she didn’t. I was still shaking an hour after it happened. This dog is going to be the death of me.

Good Doggy Mama

Guess who’s tilted again?  Guess who’s going to shell out another hundred dollars on Lucie’s right ear?  Guess who’s credit card bill isn’t getting paid this month?

Raining Tears

My heart goes out to everyone affected by the horrific violence at Virginia Tech yesterday. I know how shocked and saddened I am. I can’t imagine how the families of the students feel. I keep thinking about all the questions that will never be answered, mainly why? Why did this happen? Why now? Why those kids? Why Virginia Tech? I guess we’ll never know. What scares me most is that what happened at Virginia Tech could happen anywhere to anyone. So where will it stop? Will it stop? Is this my generation’s legacy? Are we the ones who started shooting and never stopped? After every school shooting, everyone in the country is buzzing about “what we can do to make sure nothing like this ever happens again”. But then it happens again, and the death toll rises. How many more innocent lives have to be cut off in their prime before action is taken? And still, there are no answers. So where do we go from here?

To all those affected by the Virginia Tech massacre, my heart, thoughts, tears, and prayers are with you. You are not alone. The world is with you.

Yes! Thank You God!!

I finally got my old blog imported!!!!!!!!  YAY!!!!  I also finally figured out what was going so horribly wrong with WordPress. It’s my MSN browser. It hates WordPress. I think WordPress may despise MSN too. Fortunately, I also have Netscape on my computer, so I’m just going to have to blog with that until I can fix my MSN issue. If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment or email me. Also, if you’ve ever had a similar problem, please let me know. I can’t figure out if the problem is with just my MSN settings or if it’s MSN in general. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Until then, Netscape is my hero.
