Here’s an analogy for you:
Catnip is to cats as _____ is to dogs.
a) table scraps
b) a bone
c) squirrels
d) a belly rub
If you answered “c”, you are correct, my friend. Squirrels are like little puppy crack for my dog. I have always known that my dog loves to chase squirrels. In fact, there’s probably nothing else she’d rather do. However, it was only today that I noticed that when she’s looking for squirrels, she has the look of a heroine addict in search of the next fix. She has that schizophrenic, crazy-eyed, foaming mouth, “I want some *squirrel*” face. No other animal comes close – not deer, not rabbits, not even the neighborhood cat. Today was a bonanza. She terrorized 16 squirrels on our morning walk. She was so hopped up that it took her a good while to settle down even after we got home. Then she tried to kill her stuffed toy squirrel. She gave up when she realized that stuffing is just not a good substitute for real live flesh. Yup. That’s my little sweetheart.
